Slowing Down

It is so hard to believe that it’s already the end of July!  What did I do this summer?  It is so hard to get everything that must be done  & still have energy to be creative.  I try but it’s time to step back & evaluate what it is I want to put my energy into now.  You go along thinking you have all of the time in the world, then realize as you get older, you must make each day count!  I have recently had friends lose loved ones they thought would always be there to share time together.  We all must evaluate what is most important to us.

1)  Family & Friends -  spending quality time together

2)  Health & Survival - eating thoughtfully, exercising gently,

reducing stress,

3)  Feeding my soul –  being creative just for myself,

sharing time & knowledge with others, laughing out loud

4)  Learning that less is peace & more is stress

5)  Meditation – quiet time, letting thing go, posting my thoughts

Time to take a break & think this over a while.  Peace to you - K

2014 - New Beginnings

Happy New Year to my wonderful family & all of my great friends.

It was a great holiday for Ed & I!  Our family was together for Christmas.   Kim, Jason & Yamini are so special to us – we enjoy spending time with them so much!  We are so blessed with their love!

This is the time of the year to reflect on our many blessings and that is what I have been doing since before the holidays.  It is very clear that I am a wealthy woman.  If you have a loving family & good friends, a good job, a comfortable home & reasonably good health, what else do you  need?  Although money can provide security, it is love & respect that feeds your soul.

My prayer is that 2014 is a healthy year for Ed, myself & my family.  Peace to All!

Beadfest!

My friend, Jan & I are in Philly for Beadfest & we are having a blast!  Although we are exhausted, we are so happy to be here.  Yesterday we had a great class with Richard Salley making our own stamps for metal work.  What a great technique to use lead free silver solder to make designs on copper sheet metal.  Jan made a great pair of earrings that she was able to wear for the rest of the day.  We both hit a wall around 4:00, said our goodbyes to Richard & Jennifer, his sweet assistant, & went to spend some hard earned cash before our evening class.  We will be coming home with so many new ideas our heads will be spinning!  Richard Salley is such a nice person & a really good teacher – very low key & patient.  I am hoping to take more classes from him in the future.  Life is too short to sit on your hands!

Jan & I are still at the hotel this morning just waiting for the vendors to open at 11:00 so we can see a few more booths.  This show is so large, you really can’t take classes & see all of the vendors in one day.  But we did manage to do some major damage to our budgets, so today will be low key.  It was so much fun to have show & tell at the hotel last night!  Even though we were so tired we could hardly stay awake, we had to share our goodies with each other!

It’s great to have such good friends.   Life is Good!

Friendship

Friendship between women is a wonderful thing!  I have been really blessed with some special ladies in my life.  As a young child, I was pretty much a loner.  I didn’t want to be that way.  For reasons I won’t go into because it won’t change the past, I never seemed to be able to form a lasting closeness.  For years I thought it was something lacking in my personality, but as I have aged, I realize I have a large capacity to love sharing time with other women with same or similar interests as myself.

I always loved working with my hands & have tried many crafts & have made many wonderful friendships through those crafting classes.  In recent years, I have formed some very strong friendships with women who create wonderful jewelry & I feel truly happy to spend any time I can with them.  We feed off of each others creativity & encourage each other, share knowledge & laugh a lot!  As I age I realize that I need more time to develop & nourish strong friendships. This is my goal for my retirement  - nourish my friendships, old & new, by spending as much time as I have left  sharing stories, meals, music, talents & support.  I feel that this is more important to me  than anything.  That is, other than spending time with my family who always come first in my heart.

Recuperating

Tomorrow will be a week after my total knee replacement surgery & I’m feeling a little better & stronger each day.  No marathons in my future, but I’m hoping that walking without a walker will be!

My son, Jason, flew home to help his sister, Kim, take care of her father & me.  Between the two of them, they took care of a lot & I am so very grateful.  My heart is full of love for both of them.  I am humbled by how much love & good energy is being sent to me by friends & family!

Erin, my physical therapist, said I am doing good & immediately added more exercises to my daily routine!  Before you know it, I will be walking with a cane, driving to rehab & taking care of my life.  And for that I will be truly grateful!

It’s Been Too Long!

It’s been a long time between postings.  I have to admit that I thought this would be something I would do each & every day.  Well, it’s time to change my laziness!  So, I am declaring that I will not post every day, but will try really hard to post once a week.  We will see how that goes!

This has been a strange year for me so far.  It’s been a month of tests & preparation for knee replacement surgery which is coming up fast.  Just a few more days  & that’s it.  Then it will be physical therapy to get my strength back in that leg.  I have so many wonderful friends who have been so encouraging.  And my family gives me so much support.  I am truly blessed!
